Q-Bus Boards
Configuration and Jumper Information
This page collects as a "jumping off" point
links to pages that describe the configuration jumpers for Q-bus boards that are
useful in a VAX. As I get information I will add links to it here.

Firmware Images
- The RQDX3 (M7555) is a combination floppy disk and MFM
hard drive controller for Q-Bus systems. As time progressed the controller
was able to control more types of floppies and drives, the later models
could talk to all DEC floppies and MFM drives. I discovered you could
"upgrade" an early model by replacing its firmware with a later
version. I've save the firmware as INTEL HEX files and put it here.
These files 340E5.HEX and
339E5.HEX are sufficient. (alternate rqdx3.tgz) I don't know if they are the latest, but I do know
they work. They are in Intel HEX format. Save them to disk then burn them to a couple of 27128A
EPROMs.
- The Emulex UC07/UC08 SCSI controller has various
flavors of Firmware that affect how well the card works in your VAX. I use
the G143R version on my UC07 and UC08 and
it works well for me.
- There is a bug in NetBSD that sometimes corrupts the
firmware in the VAX 4000/90 this is a "good" image
I extracted from my 4000/90. Its pure binary (no encoding) so you probably
want to right-click or shift-click the link and down load it to a file. I
haven't figured out how to flash the motherboard yet but hope to be able to
do that soon.
